SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
Spiritual direction is the art of intentionally journeying with another (directee) in a Spirit-led, free flowing way that fosters trust, safety, vulnerability, and honesty with God and self so that the directee can become aware of the movements and promptings of God in their life, more fully embrace the love and grace God has for them, and in turn manifest that love to others.

TEND offers two forms of Spiritual Direction:
1. For individuals
2. Supervision for Spiritual Directors

What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction is the practice of spiritual companionship that recognizes the loving presence of God in our lives. It involves a relationship between a Spiritual Director and a directee, where the director listens attentively to the directee's experiences, thoughts, and the movements of God within them. Through simple conversations, introspective questions, and moments of prayer (verbal and non-verbal) Spiritual Direction encourages individuals to explore their longings and desires, ultimately leading them to a deeper awareness of God's love and their own identity.

At its heart, Spiritual Direction is grounded in honest conversation and attentive listening, anchored in trust and mutual respect. The Spiritual Director acts as a guide, akin to a coach or midwife, helping the directee discern the inner voice of God in order to navigate their spiritual path. The process is not about providing answers or directives; rather, it emphasizes a reflective approach that nurtures the directee's personal relationship with God. As individuals engage in this journey, they are invited to consider their life stories, relationships, and the world around them, fostering a deeper understanding of their purpose and direction in alignment with God's leading.

The practice of Spiritual Direction is particularly valuable during times of crisis or confusion, as it offers a supportive environment for individuals seeking clarity and guidance. Our Spiritual Directors hold certification, and are trained to listen deeply, to fully engage with the directee's life story and the Holy Spirit's movements. This relational process not only enhances the directee's awareness of God's presence in their daily life but also encourages them to discern God's voice amidst the many distractions of modern life. Ultimately, Spiritual Direction can serve as a transformative journey, leading individuals closer to God and nurturing their ongoing spiritual growth and healing.

What is Spiritual Direction Supervision?
Spiritual Direction Supervision is a structured and intentional relationship designed to support Spiritual Directors in their professional and personal development. It is essential for every healthy spiritual director to be in some form of supervision with at least one other spiritual director. Our process involves creating a safe and reflective space where Spiritual Directors can engage in meaningful dialogue about their practice, experiences, and the questions they are contemplating. The primary aim of supervision is to cultivate growth, enhance skills, and ensure the well-being of both the Spiritual Director and their directees.

Spiritual Direction Supervision emphasizes the importance of reflection and consultation. It provides Spiritual Directors with the opportunity to explore their own spiritual lives, examine their responses to the individuals they serve, and address any challenges or questions that may arise in their practice. This reflective process is crucial for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of spiritual direction, as it encourages directors to remain attuned to their own spiritual health and the dynamics of their relationships with directees. NOTE: Our supervisors hold certifications in Spiritual Direction and the Supervision of Spiritual Directors.
