JAMIE MATHISRUD
Jamie Mathisrud is a native Southern Californian. She attended UCLA for undergraduate studies, during which time she met her husband, James. Following college, she began her career in education, taking a hiatus to serve as a stay-at-home mom with their 3 children. She later resumed her career, which enabled her to work in the various schools her children attended. During this time, she attended her first silent retreat at a monastery; shortly thereafter, she began meeting with a Spiritual Director, and felt called to pursue training in Spiritual Formation and Direction. She completed her training, including the 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, at the Loyola Institute for Spirituality. She subsequently completed certification as a Spiritual Director through Christian Formation and Direction Ministries (CFDM). She has offered Silent Retreats and the ministry of Spiritual Companionship since 2017. She is a member of the teaching team at her church.
Her strengths lie in the ability to communicate biblical truths and to offer application of spiritual practices, while creating spaces of comfort and engagement for women and men. She is both a contemplative and a mystic, a writer and a poet, who has journeyed with others as a companion and guide as they seek ongoing deepening of their relationship with the Triune God.
Amy on growth:
As Macrina Wiederkehr writes,“God comes to us disguised as our life — every growing edge a place of encounter.” My ordinary life, others’ everyday lives, are the very places of encounter wherein God is inviting us to growth. The slow, steady steps taken on my cherished pilgrimages along the Camino de Santiago have invited me to cultivate a practice of finding God in the midst of my life, in the spaces where I encounter myself, Himself, and others — these are the soil of growth.
Growth is perhaps most evident in the rear-view mirror.
As I allow myself space and pace to reflect on the slow spiritual leavening within myself and others, I trace the arc of God’s faithful hand to bring growth in His timing and ways in our everyday life.
